(670 The Score) Highly regarded White Sox infielder prospect Nick Madrigal is "pretty close" to being ready to receive his big league promotion, director of player development Chris Getz said Thursday.

"He's pretty close," Getz said, according to Scott Merkin of MLB.com. "He's pretty close. It's purely putting him in a position to succeed when he gets there. His starter kit is pretty good as is, but we want to make sure we're getting the most out of him right out of the gate."

Madrigal, 23, is working with the group at the White Sox's alternate camp in Schaumburg. While he flashed his talent and maturity in summer camp, it wasn't a big surprise that he didn't make the Opening Day roster given the service time element. By keeping him down for about a week into the regular season, the White Sox ensured they receive an extra year of contract control on the back end of his deal.

When he joins the White Sox, Madrigal is expected to take over as the primary second baseman. Leury Garcia has received most of the playing time there early in the White Sox's 2-4 start.

Madrigal hit .311 with four homers, 55 RBIs, a .377 on-base percentage and a .792 OPS in 120 games split across three minor league levels in 2019.
