(670 The Score) The White Sox on Monday began installing extended protective netting down the lines all the way to the foul poles at Guaranteed Rate Field.

The majority of the work as expected to be completed Monday, and the entire task will be done by the time the White Sox return to Guaranteed Rate to open a 10-game homestand on July 22.

The extensive of the netting came after renewed calls across the baseball landscape for MLB teams to do more to protect fans in a season in which several have been injured by foul balls. That included a lady who was recently hospitalized in June when she was struck by a foul-ball liner off the bat of White Sox rookie outfielder Eloy Jimenez at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Many players across MLB had supported the idea of extending the protective netting.

"It just keeps people safe," White Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito said previously. "I hate seeing young kids get hit, having to go to the hospital. It just leave a sick feeling in all of our stomachs."
