White Sox Hire Coolbaugh As Assistant Hitting Coach

Scott Coolbaugh served as a Triple-A hitting coach this past season.

(670 The Score) The White Sox have hired Scott Coolbaugh as their assistant hitting coach, they announced Tuesday.

Coolbaugh will work under new hitting coach Frank Menechino, who was named to the position on Oct. 10. The White Sox let hitting coach Todd Steverson and assistant hitting coach Greg Sparks go at season's end. They were 13th in the American League in averaging 4.4 runs per game in 2019. Their .728 OPS ranked 12th in the AL.

Coolbaugh, 53, served as the hitting coach for Triple-A Oklahoma City, an affiliate of the Dodgers, in 2019. Prior to that, he was the Orioles' hitting coach from 2015-'18. During his four seasons in Baltimore, the Orioles were third in homers and ninth in slugging percentage in MLB.

Coolbaugh worked in the Rangers organization from 2007-'14.
