(670 The Score) After searching all offseason, the White Sox have added a veteran pitcher.

Chicago has signed left-hander Gio Gonzalez to a one-year deal that's worth $4.5 million in 2020, the team announced Friday. The contract includes a $7-million team option for 2021 and a $500,000 buyout if the option isn't exercised.

Gonzalez, 34, had a 3.50 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 19 games, including 17 starts, for the Brewers in 2019. He has a 3.68 ERA in his 12-year MLB career.

Gonzalez has been a model of durability in his career. In nine seasons from 2010 to to 2018, he made 31 or more starts eight times and 27 starts in the other season.

Gonzalez will slot somewhere in the middle to back end of the White Sox's otherwise young rotation that will be without left-hander Carlos Rodon until midseason as he continues his Tommy John rehab. The White Sox could also slow roll right-hander Michael Kopech's return and workload as he's returning from Tommy John surgery.

This is Gonzalez's third stint with the White Sox, who selected him in the first round of the 2004 amateur draft. They then traded him to the Phillies in 2005. The Phillies traded him back to the White Sox in 2006 before Chicago dealt him to Oakland in 2008.

The White Sox's addition of Gonzalez doesn't mean they're done seeking pitching help. They've acknowledged previously that they'd like to add two starting pitching options, and they remain in the sweepstakes for left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu and left-hander Dallas Keuchel, Bruce Levine of 670 The Score reported Wednesday.

The Gonzalez news was first reported Thursday before it became official Friday. In another move Thursday, Chicago signed infielder Cheslor Cuthbert to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training.

The 27-year-old Cuthbert split his time about equally between first base and third base for the Royals in 2019. Kansas City non-tendered Cuthbert earlier in December. He hit .246 with nine homers, 40 RBIs and a .673 OPS in 87 games this past season.

Cuthbert has a career .250 batting average and .679 OPS.
