(670 The Score) As newly signed Cubs closer Craig Kimbrel continues his work to get ready for game action, pitching coach Tommy Hottovy and others are anxiously awaiting his arrival.

Stream MLB games now on fuboTV.

"Any time you add a pitcher of his caliber, not just stuff-wise but just his career and the experience that he's had, what that does to your team and your staff is it just kind of rejuvenates you and lengthens what we feel is a deep group anyway," Hottovy said on the Mully & Haugh Show on Wednesday morning.

Kimbrel threw a bullpen session Monday as he continued to work at the Cubs' complex in Arizona. He's expected to throw live batting practice later this week, with the hope that he can join the big league Cubs in a couple weeks.

Hottovy can't wait.

"The stuff is electric," Hottovy said. "There's no question. You see the way he pitches. That first bullpen that he threw at Wrigley for us, it was the ball's coming out and it was easy -- all the things you expect to see from a guy like Craig Kimbrel. The thing I was probably most impressed with or most surprised with too was just how much feel he has to pitch, what he talks about when he's throwing the baseball, why he's throwing the pitch where he is, how he can maybe alter an arm path a little bit to add more ride on his fastball or change his grip a little bit or change up his mindset on his breaking ball to throw a strike one versus a chase one.

"His mental approach and how in tune he is with his body and what he's trying to do is really amazing. It's going to be fun to watch him as he progresses through this."
