(670 The Score) Giants right-hander Jeff Samardzija has never played for manager Joe Maddon, but he does have plenty of familiarity with the Chicago baseball scene.

Listen to your team news NOW.

Samardzija pitched for the Cubs from 2008-'14 and the White Sox in 2015. It's with that as context that Samardzija expressed his astonishment that Maddon is squarely on the hot seat, managing in the final season of his contract with an uncertain future just three years after leading the Cubs to their long-awaited World Series title.

"I hear these people talk about Joe being on the hot seat," Samardzija said on the McNeil & Parkins Show on Wednesday afternoon. "I'm like, 'Listen, when I was growing up, if you had told me a guy who had won the World Series with the Cubs and then would be canned (three) years after that, I'd have sent you packing. I would've kicked you out of my house.' Because I would've said that guy has a job for at least 15 years, at least three losing seasons before he gets canned."

Check out Samardzija's wide-ranging interview below, as he had plenty to say about his baseball journey, how the game has changed and more.
