(670 The Score) The Cubs plan on playing three exhibition games during spring training 2.0, and the White Sox are likely to be an opponent of theirs.

Details haven't been revealed or finalized, but the Cubs fully expect to play three exhibition games, general manager Jed Hoyer told reporters in a media session Monday. The expectation is that the White Sox will be their foe, as MLB is looking to limit travel amid the coronavirus pandemic. Cubs president of business operations Crane Kenney hinted on 670 The Score last Thursday that his organization could face the White Sox in exhibition play.

On-field activities start once again at home ballparks across MLB this coming Friday. The lack of usual Cactus League and Grapefruit League games has left teams in an unusual position, as they'll need to get their players in top playing form and assess the fringe of their roster in more intrasquad scrimmages rather than against other teams.

The MLB regular season is set to start July 23, though most teams are expected to open play on July 24.
