(670 The Score) At long last, the Cubs appear on the verge of adding a player on an MLB deal this offseason.

Chicago is nearing an agreement with outfielder Steven Souza Jr., Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic reported Friday afternoon. Souza spent the last two seasons with the Diamondbacks.

Souza, 30, missed the entire 2019 season due to a significant left knee injury. He had surgery last spring to repair an ACL tear, a LCL tear, a partially torn PCL and a posterior lateral capsule tear, injuries he suffering during an exhibition game after stepping awkwardly on home plate, MLB.com reported.

Souza also had an injury-plagued 2018, hitting .220 with five homers, 29 RBIs and a .678 OPS in 72 games. He has hit .233 with a .740 OPS across five MLB seasons.

Souza has primarily been a right fielder in his career, as 411 of his 417 starts in the outfield have come there.

If Souza and the Cubs reach an agreement, it would mark the first MLB deal for the team this offseason.
