(670 The Score) The Cubs have named Tommy Hottovy as their new pitching coach,

Hottovy, 37, gets the promotion after most recently serving as the Cubs' run prevention coordinator. In that position, Hottovy played a key role in advance scouting and preparing gameday reports for pitchers and catchers. He's a former big league pitcher who made 17 appearances across 2011 and 2012 before entering the coaching ranks.

Hottovy's ties to Epstein and general manager Jed Hoyer date back to 2004, when they were running the Red Sox and selected him in the fourth round of the amateur draft. Hottovy will be the Cubs' third pitching coach in as many seasons, as he takes over after Jim Hickey resigned for reasons that remain largely unclear.

In addition to Hottovy, the Cubs revealed they have hired Terrmel Sledge as their new assistant hitting coach and Chris Denorfia as a quality assurance coach under manager Joe Maddon. Catching coach Mike Borzello's title has been elevated, as he also has been tabbed as the team's associate pitching coach. Brandon Hyde will return as the Cubs' bench coach as well, pending an interview for the Orioles' managerial vacancy.
