Cubs Name Mark Loretta Their New Bench Coach

The Cubs also hired Bob Tewksbury as a mental skills coordinator.

(670 The Score) The Cubs have named Mark Loretta their new bench coach, they announced Wednesday afternoon.

Loretta will replace Brandon Hyde, who departed to become the new manager of the Orioles. Loretta is a 15-year MLB veteran who spent the past nine seasons in the Padres' front office. He was most recently a special assistant in baseball operations. 

Additionally, the Cubs named Bob Tewksbury a mental skills coordinator. He was a 13-year MLB veteran and has worked for 15 years in mental skills, including with the Red Sox from 2004-'13, the first eight of which he worked for the Theo Epstein regime. Tewksbury most recently served as a mental performance coach for the Giants in 2017 and 2018.
