Zobrist will play for the Iowa Cubs for four games as they visit the Memphis Redbirds from Thursday to Sunday, after which the organization will re-evaluate his situation. Zobrist recently had rehab stints at low Class-A South Bend and advanced Class-A Myrtle Beach, going 4-of-19 with two homers, three walks and five strikeouts in six games.

Zobrist, 38, took a personal leave of absence from the Cubs in early May as he went through divorce proceedings. He continues to eye a return to the Cubs by the end of August. Zobrist must be added to the roster by Aug. 31 to be playoff-eligible.

Zobrist was the MVP of the World Series when the Cubs broke their 108-year championship drought in 2016. He struggled earlier this season before stepping away, hitting .241 with a .596 OPS and just one extra-base hit in 83 at-bats.
