(670 The Score) The Cubs have activated lefty reliever Kyle Ryan from the bereavement list, they announced Tuesday.

Ryan missed the final three games of the Cubs' series against the Reds over the weekend. Ryan has had a breakout season, posting a 2.80 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 52 appearances while earning high-leverage opportunities from manager Joe Maddon.

Ryan will be available when the Cubs open a three-games series at the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday evening.

In a corresponding move, Chicago optioned righty reliever Dillon Maples to Triple-A Iowa. Maples has posted a 6.75 ERA in 11 appearances for the Cubs this season.
