(670 The Score) The Cubs have activated righty reliever Carl Edwards Jr. from the injured list, they announced Friday.

Edwards had been out since mid-June with a left thoracic strain. He's expected to be available when the Cubs host the Padres in the afternoon at Wrigley Field.

Edwards has a 5.40 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 19 appearances in 2019. After a disastrous first week to the season, he was sent to Triple-A to refine his game, then returned to the Cubs in early May. Edwards had rebounded nicely from his early struggles, as he hadn't allowed an earned run in final eight outings before hitting the injured list.

In a corresponding move, Chicago optioned lefty reliever Randy Rosario to Triple-A Iowa. He has a 5.91 ERA and 1.59 WHIP in 13 appearances for the Cubs this season.
