(670 The Score) The Bears altered the title of recently hired assistant Deshea Townsend to secondary coach while promoting two defensive quality control coaches to positions as well Friday.

Sean Desai has been named the Bears' new safeties coach. He previously held the title of assistant defensive backs coach. Additionally, Bill Shuey has been named defensive pass analyst/assistant linebackers coach.

These changes complete the remade defensive coaching staff under new coordinator Chuck Pagano, who has a new outside linebackers coach in Ted Monachino and inside linebackers coach in Mark DeLeone. Jay Rodgers stayed on as the defensive line coach.

Townsend had previously served as the assistant defensive backs coach for the Giants, working with New York for one season. He was a 13-year NFL veteran who's now six seasons into coaching.

Desai is entering his seventh season with the Bears after working the previous six in a quality control role. Shuey arrived on the coaching staff last year, also in a quality control role.
