(670 The Score) Having fallen out of the playoff race, the Blackhawks chose to sell ahead of the trade deadline Monday afternoon.

Chicago traded defenseman Erik Gustafsson to the Calgary Flames in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2020 draft, the team announced. The Blackhawks will receive the earlier of the Flames' two third-round picks in that draft.

The move came as no surprise, given that the 27-year-old Gustafsson is set to become a free agent this summer and he had been held out of recent games for precautionary reasons. An offensive-minded defenseman, Gustafsson has recorded 26 points (six goals, 20 assists) in 59 games this season. That marks a downturn in production for him, as he had 60 points (17 goals, 43 assists) in 79 games in 2018-'19.

Gustafsson's exit wasn't the only big trade by the Blackhawks on Monday. Chicago also traded goalie Robin Lehner to the Vegas Golden Knights for a second-round pick and two prospects, according to reports.
