Chicago traded the 23-year-old Perlini to the Detroit Red Wings on Monday evening, several days after news surfaced that Perlini had request a to be moved amid a season in which he has found himself unable to earn a top-12 forward role. Perlini had appeared in just one game.

Perlini recorded 12 goals and three assists in 47 games in his Blackhawks tenure after Chicago acquired him in a trade from Arizona last November.

In return for Perlini, the Blackhawks acquired 19-year-old defenseman Alec Regula from the Red Wings, who drafted him in the third round in 2018. Regula will remain with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League. He has 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in 10 games for London this season.
