(WBBM Newsradio) It has been a trying season for the Blackhawks, who are floundering in sixth place in the Central Division and sit at 9-14-5 through Tuesday night.

Chicago's struggles led to coach Joel Quenneville being fired on Nov. 6, a momentous moment in franchise history given that Quenneville had led the organization to three Stanley Cup championships in his tenure.

Recently, owner Rocky Wirtz conducted a wide-ranging interview with WBBM reporter George Ofman to discuss his new book "The Breakaway," authored by veteran Chicago journalist Bryan Smith and which details the inside relationships and dysfunction of the Wirtz family that accompanied the Blackhawks' rise to prominence. As part of the conversation, Wirtz also discussed Quenneville's firing and the possibility of the Blackhawks tearing it down to start a true rebuilding effort from the ground up.

Take a listen to the interview above.
