(670 The Score) The Bears' coaching staff will have a new look after an unexpected development Wednesday evening.

The Bears will hire John DeFilippo as their quarterbacks coach, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported. In a corresponding move, previous quarterbacks coach Dave Ragone will be promoted to become the passing game coordinator, Schefter reported.

The Bears previously reached an agreement with former Bengals and Dolphins offensive coordinator Bill Lazor to become their new offensive coordinator, a position that opened up when Chicago dismissed Mark Helfrich at season's end.

DeFilippo, 41, and the Jaguars parted ways Monday after he served as Jacksonville's offensive coordinator for one season. The Jaguars ranked 26th in scoring offense in the NFL and 20th in total offense in 2019, when starting quarterback Nick Foles was limited to four games, primarily due to injury.

General manager Ryan Pace and the Bears were somewhat familiar with DeFilippo already. They interviewed him for their head coaching vacancy in January 2018 before hiring Matt Nagy.

Prior to his stint with the Jaguars, DeFilippo was the Vikings' offensive coordinator in 2018 and the Eagles' quarterbacks coach in 2016 and 2017. He has also coached for the Giants, Raiders, Jets and Browns.
