The Bears released reserve quarterback Tyler Bray, the team announced. They re-signed tight end Bradley Sowell in a corresponding move.

Bray's departure from the active roster could be a signal that Trubisky will be ready to return when the Bears host the Saints on Oct. 20. Chicago has a bye this week, and coach Matt Nagy has expressed a measure of hope that Trubisky can return after it.

Trubisky suffered a left shoulder injury six plays into the Bears' win against the Vikings on Sept. 29 and hasn't played since. Bray was active and served as Chase Daniel's backup in Chicago's loss to Oakland in London this past Sunday. Daniel played well in relief against Minnesota before making several crucial mistakes in the loss to Oakland.

Bray could land back on the Bears' practice squad. He has only appeared in one regular-season game in his NFL career and none for the Bears.
