(670 The Score) Chicago area product Cam Meredith is headed to New Orleans, set to sign with the Saints on a two-year deal after the Bears declined to match the offer sheet. A source confirmed the news, which was first reported by ESPN.

A restricted free agent receiver, Meredith agreed to the deal with the Saints last Friday that set forth terms on a contract that could pay up to $9.6 million with incentives included. He agreed to the offer sheet with the Saints after visiting with the Ravens and Colts previously.

Under the terms of the original-round tender, the Bears were granted five days to match the Saints' offer sheet. The tender they utilized would've paid $1.907 million for Meredith this season. By declining to match, the Bears receive no compensation in return for Meredith. A second-round tender would've paid out $2.914 million for Meredith.

Meredith had his best season in 2016, posting 66 receptions for 888 yards and four touchdowns. Set to be a starter for the Bears in 2017, he suffered a torn ACL in a preseason game in August and missed the entire season. The status of Meredith's knee was among factors considered by the Bears. The injury allowed a clean recovery for his ACL after surgery, with only minor ligament damage elsewhere. Meredith is on track to be ready to return for training camp.

The Bears added receivers Allen Robinson and Taylor Gabriel in free agency, which contributed to Meredith being expendable. The Bears will now turn their attention to exploring the market of receivers in the NFL Draft late in April.

Just before the Bears used the original-round tender on Meredith, they met with several receivers at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, including Alabama's Calvin Ridley and SMU's Courtland Sutton.
