(670 The Score) In light of domestic violence allegations surfacing against him from his ex-wife, Cubs shortstop Addison Russell isn't with the team as it opens a three-game series against the White Sox on Friday at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Melisa Reidy-Russell, whom Russell married in 2016 and split from last year, accused him of physical, emotional and verbal abuse in a recent blog post. Neither the Cubs nor MLB had commented on Russell's situation as of late Friday morning.

MLB opened an investigation into Russell after a friend of Reidy-Russell's accused him of physical abuse on social media in June 2017. That investigation has never been closed, and Russell hasn't been disciplined to date.

President of baseball operations Theo Epstein is scheduled to talk to the Cubs players and the media Friday afternoon regarding Russell's situation.

Javier Baez will start at shortstop for the Cubs. Kyle Schwarber is also returning to the lineup after suffering from back soreness, serving as the team's designated hitter.

First pitch is at 3:10 p.m. and can be heard on 670 The Score. Pregame starts at 2:35 p.m.
